One of the simplest pleasures in Paris is taking a leisurely stroll along the banks of the Seine River. Marvel at the picturesque bridges, charming houseboats, and iconic landmarks that line the river’s edge, including Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum, and the Eiffel Tower. Pack a picnic and enjoy a scenic lunch by the water, or simply sit back and soak up the beauty of Parisian life unfolding before you. Added benefit, bringing your own food and wine will save you money ! And yes, you can drink wine in public in France.

While access to the interior of Notre-Dame Cathedral is still closed due to a fire in 2019, admiring its stunning exterior is completely free. Marvel at the intricate Gothic architecture, including the iconic gargoyles and flying buttresses, and snap photos of this beloved Parisian landmark. The new spire has recently been exposed, so definitely worth the visit. Plus, don’t forget to explore the charming Île de la Cité (Island of the City) neighborhood surrounding the cathedral of Notre Dame, home to picturesque squares, flower markets, and historic buildings. And this is the oldest part of the city !

Enjoy Free Museum Days: Budget cost : free

Many of Paris’s top museums offer free admission on the first Sunday of each month (most, not all !), including the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, and Centre Pompidou. Take advantage of these opportunities to explore world-class art collections, from the Mona Lisa to works by Van Gogh and Picasso, without spending a dime. Arrive early to beat the crowds and make the most of your museum visit.

The Louvre also has free entry Friday nights !

Not all museums offer free admission the first Sunday of the month, so be sure the check out websites before going !

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city streets and retreat to one of Paris’s beautiful parks and gardens. The Jardin des Tuileries, Luxembourg Gardens, and Parc des Buttes-Chaumont are just a few of the green spaces where you can relax, picnic, and enjoy the beauty of nature in the heart of Paris. Pictured is Parc Monceau, or head to my personal favorite, the Jardin des Plantes. Plus, many parks host free events and performances throughout the year, from concerts to outdoor film screenings.

A covered passage

These covered passages were built in the 18th and 19th centuries for a shopping place for the bourgeoisie.

Less than 30 of these passages remain. Read my blog about them here.
